Dr. David Freeman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and Director of Endoscopic Spine Surgery. He joined the faculty in August 2023 after completing his residency in neurological surgery with an enfolded neuromodulation fellowship at the University of Minnesota and specialty fellowship training in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of Miami. Dr. Freeman has special expertise in treating complex spine problems with a variety of techniques. In general, he seeks to treat each patient in the least invasive way possible. This includes using minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery whenever able.

Dr. Freeman grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and completed both his medical degree and doctorate at Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine.

Dr. Freeman’s care philosophy is to understand the profound impact the spine has on a patient's overall well-being and to approach each patient with compassion and respect for their unique journey. Taking time to understand the patient allows Dr. Freeman to tailor treatments and approaches that align with the goals and values of each patient.

His research interest focuses on understanding mechanisms of recovery following spinal cord injury and how neuromodulation can help facilitate that role.
