Research Description:
The activation of the estrogen receptor by estradiol, serves to activate glucose metabolism in numerous types of cancer. The mechanism by which estrogen receptor activates glucose metabolism has become an area of active research. My research focuses on examining the role of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase (PFKFB3) in estradiol-stimulated glucose metabolism and the potential utility of targeting PFKFB3 alone or in combination with other known drivers of tumorigenesis as a treatment for cancer patients
