This professional development conference will investigate the history of the first party struggle in the United States and its implications for our understanding of a free society. This struggle among the Federalists of 1788 pitted the "Friends of Liberty" (the Jeffersonian opposition) against the pro-administration "Friends of Order" and was an integral part of the American Founding.

Fifteen Kentucky secondary teachers and administrators will consider topics including "Apprehensions and Divisions," "Leadership Divides and Collides," "The French Revolution and the People," "The Jefferson Ascendancy: Domestic Politics, 1801-1808," "The Jefferson Ascendancy: Foreign Policy, 1801-1812" and "The End of an Era."

This conference is a co-sponsored program of the McConnell Center and Liberty Fund, Inc.

Covered Expenses

  • Round trip airfare to Boston, Massachusetts
  • Double room accommodations for the conference
  • All meals during the conference
  • All conference readings and other educational resources
  • All transportation and admission fees associated with group travel during the Institute
