Dr. Oliver Myers Visits UofL: A Day of Inspiration, Insight, and STEM Advocacy

Dr. Oliver Myers and VP Lee Gill

The University of Louisville was honored to welcome Dr. Oliver Myers to campus on March 20 for a full day of engagement, inspiration, and meaningful dialogue. His visit offered students, faculty, and leaders an opportunity to learn from his remarkable journey in engineering and his work with the nationally acclaimed Meyerhoff Scholars Program.

Dr. Myers began his day with a morning campus tour, followed by a powerful conversation with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) General Body, where he generously shared his personal experiences and the transformative power of mentorship and representation in STEM fields.

His keynote presentation, “Sharing the Meyerhoff Story,” captivated attendees with a compelling vision for how a similar model at UofL could significantly enhance access, support, and success for underrepresented students in STEM. The Meyerhoff Program, nationally recognized for its success in promoting academic excellence, community, and mentorship, sparked a dynamic conversation across the university community.

In addition to the student-focused events, Dr. Myers also delivered an engaging research lecture and held impactful meetings with campus leaders including Emmanuel Collins, Lee Gill, and students from NSBE. These discussions further emphasized the importance of sustained institutional support for equity in STEM education.

Dr. Myers brought a wealth of insight, experience, and dedication to expanding educational pathways, and his visit has energized future conversations around collaboration, equity, and innovation in STEM programming at UofL.

A special thank you to Valerie Clay and the J.B. Speed School of Engineering for organizing this outstanding event and helping to set the stage for lasting impact.
