Comprehensive Evaluation and Treatment

Treatment at the University of Louisville Depression Center begins with a comprehensive evaluation by a specialist in mood disorders. The assessment can be conducted as a consultation to another health care provider, or can be a referral from a health care professional to provide ongoing care. Self-referrals are also accepted. After an initial evaluation, a treatment plan is developed to provide services that are designed to meet the unique needs of each patient. Resources from any of the Center’s core programscan be used to increase the opportunities for recovery. An emphasis is placed on using treatment strategies that have been proven to be effective in research studies. Typically a comprehensive, multi-faceted plan is developed that includes biological and psychological approaches. Treatment plans are customized to draw on the strengths of each person and to be sensitive to individual preferences and sociocultural differences.
