Dean’s Message
Dear Colleagues,
A gorgeous Spring weekend and a lot of rain has everything on campus in bloom. I hope you’re able to enjoy the weather, perhaps even bringing students outside for a class or two.
There is a lot going on as we get close to the end of the semester and the 2014-2015 school year:
- The Celebration of Faculty Excellence will be held Friday, April 24 at 3pm in the Red Barn. We are recognizing current faculty members and celebrating the research, teaching and service of our retiring faculty members. I would love to see you there as we celebrate the end of another great year in the College!
-
Artist Judy Chicago will speak at the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater Tuesday, April 14. Last March, Chicago gifted the International Honor Quilt to UofL and the Hite Art Institute. The quilt is a collaborative work of art that combines stories from its 540 individual makers into a collective commentary on feminism and politics. I encourage you to take advantage of this cultural artifact in our collections and incorporate it into your future curricula.
- As election season begins ramping up, many of our political science professors are being tapped to speak with media outlets around the country. We’re always looking for professors in all academic disciplines willing to share their expertise with the media, so if you would like to be a resource, please email Lindsey Brown Ronay.
- Spring at UofL means it’s Grawemeyer Awards season! Each year, UofL grants awards in world order, psychology, education, and music composition. Additionall, the University and the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary jointly give an award in religion. All of these awards highlight the importance of critical and creative thinking – two ideals which A&S espouses. This year’s winners will give public talks on April 15 and 16. More information about this year’s winners and their public talks
All of these events and more allow the College to celebrate the end of a very productive academic year. I hope we will all take the opportunity to get to know one another better, appreciate our achievements, and share ideas for 2015-16.
Have a great week!
