Dean's Message

Dear Colleagues:

I hope you will join me in welcoming President Bendapudi to our new Rowan building where she will deliver the annual Phi Beta Kappa lecture on Tuesday, March 5. Then on Thursday, March 7, we will host our third economic development submit at 1606 Rowan, this year focusing on the local impact of arts and culture. Details of each are available in this newsletter.

As we convey the lasting impact of the liberal arts to our students and the wider community, I am delighted to once again be able to highlight how our faculty are advancing the fields. Today, I highlight the announcement last week that the National Endowment of the Arts has awarded Kiki Petrosino, associate professor of English, with the very prestigious FY 2019 FY 2019 Creative Writing Fellowship. Fellows are selected through a highly-competitive, anonymous process and are judged solely on the artistic excellence of the work sample provided.

In addition, U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith selected my poem, "Europe," to read & discuss on her podcast, The Slowdown. Each weekday, Smith selects a different, single poem & offers a close analysis. Here's the link: https://www.apmpodcasts.org/slowdown/2019/02/61-europe/

Sincerely,

Kimberly Kempf-Leonard, Ph.D.
Dean
