Study Abroad - Trinidad & Tobago
This is a 4-week program hosted by the Department of Pan-African Studies. Students will participate in a series of introductory classes at U of L for the first week of the program. Following this, the group will travel to Trinidad & Tobago for the remaining 3 weeks of the program.
The Republic of Trinidad & Tobago offers an intriguing cosmopolitan mix and examples of racial diversity. The twin island nation represents the allure of an old-world civilization overlaid with new-world energy, its culture and heritage-primarily Afro-Trinidadian and Indo-Trinidadian-boasts ethnic influences from every continent.
This program is open to any upper-level U of L undergraduate student/graduate student. Students must complete the application process as directed below.

The History and Popular Culture of Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean - 3 credits
This program is a collaborative effort between the University of Louisville and the University of West Indies (UWI). UWI is an International, autonomous institution that serves and is supported by 15 countries in the Caribbean region.
Students will be exposed to a range of possibilities for inter-disciplinary creative work in the studio, in the environment, and in the community. This course format consists of a series of workshops and field trips organized around music, traditional dances, performances, visual arts, and community action/ research work.
Program Cost
Total Program Cost is $3500 and includes:
- Round-trip airfare from Louisville, Kentucky to Trinidad
- Local transportation
- Room - based on double occupancy
- Workshop and field trip fees
- Course materials
- Visit to Tobago
- Use of all campus facilities
Program cost does not include meals, tuition for PAS 568/686, personal spending money, passport fees, and mandatory health insurance. Scholarships are available.

- Complete the application. Applications are available as of October 1 and are located at in the Department of Pan-African Studies.

- A program deposit of $500 will be due by January 15, 2007
