Study Abroad - China
The College of Arts and Sciences is sponsoring a Chinese summer program at Beijing Foreign Studies University, our Chinese partner in Beijing, China. Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is a key university under the Ministry of Education. BFSU has long enjoyed a good reputation for the quality of its language teaching programs. The courses offered at Beijing Foreign Studies University will be taught by Chinese professors who are specialists in teaching Mandarin to non-native speakers.
Courses Offered
- Intermediate Chinese - 6 credits
- Advanced Intermediate Chinese - 6 credits
- Independent Studies in Chinese and other disciplines as arranged
- Visit to Xian and Shanghai and Suzhou
Program Cost
Total Program Cost is $3600 and includes:
- Academic fee at BFSU
- Round-trip international and inland airfare
- Visa fee
- Ground transportation expenses for some weekend sightseeing
- Housing (only) at BFSU
- Expenses for meals and hotels in Xian, Shanghai, and Suzhou
Scholarships
The first 20 students accepted to the program by February 1, 2007 will receive $1000 scholarship support from the University Provost Office. Scholarship application forms are available at the International Center.
Payment Schedule
- An application fee of $200 must be submitted with the application by November 20, 2006
- An additional $1500 is due on February 1, 2007
- The balance of $1900 (or less if the student has received financial assistance) is due by March 15, 2007
Application Procedures
- Complete the application, which is available at the International Center.
- Submit a copy of your unofficial transcript.
- An initial application fee of $200 must be submitted with the application to reserve your place in the program. This fee is part of the down payment and is not refundable.
- As part of the application, participants must also submit the Student Release & Assumption of Risk Form and the Overseas Emergency Information Sheet.
