Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must...
be U.S. citizens.
be full-time students who will have achieved junior standing by time of departure. Transfer students must have completed at least one year at U of L by time of departure.
have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic standing.
demonstrate advanced proficiency in the language of the prospective host institution. (NOTE: coursework at the University of Manitoba is in English; coursework at the Université de Montréal is in French; coursework at the Universidad de Colima and the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí is in Spanish.)
be willing to complete a U of L 3-credit course in conflict resolution (currently, POLS 506-30 “Topics in International Relations: Coping With Conflict–The North American Experience” or equivalent) prior to the semester abroad. Participants will generally enroll in POLS 506-30 in the fall and travel in the spring.

A statement of purpose (500 words maximum) explaining your interest in this program, what experiences you have had (coursework, internships, jobs, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, etc.) that you feel are relevant to the topic of peace building and conflict resolution,and how this program fits into your current academic plans and may contribute to your long-term career goals.

Two letters of recommendation from faculty in two different departments/programs. These letters should be mailed by recommenders directly to Dr. Joy Carew at the International Center. If you are applying to a program that requires proficiency in Spanish or French, you must submit at least one letter from an instructor who knows your competency in that language.
