Where does the University of Louisville want to be in 2020?
That's a tough question to answer, but with our Challenge for Excellence completed two years ahead of schedule, we have begun to plan for the next decade and beyond.
I have put together a planning committee from across the university and charged it to develop a strategic plan which is firmly grounded in our values as a university, centered on its mission, and responsive to the appropriate needs of the greater community, the commonwealth, the nation and the world. Along with the strategic plan, the committee also will develop a set of implementation plans.
I have asked for our new plan to be ready for partial implementation in the academic year 2007-2008 and full implementation in 2008-2009.
The committee's task is daunting. That is why it will need - and ask for - input from the university community. Starting in the coming weeks and continuing through spring and early summer, the committee will provide opportunities for you to give your input concerning the university's future. I hope you will respond to their requests.
This is an important time for the university as we work together to set our course.
