Vision

To build an inclusive campus community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and can develop to his/her full potential.

Operational Definition of Diversity

Diversity includes all of us who are part of the human puzzle…race, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin and persons with disabilities. However, our emphasis is on those groups that are protected by federal law. And with the Kentucky Plan and the Office of Civil Rights mandate, the emphasis is on African Americans.

Goals

  1. Serve as an advocate for underrepresented populations.
  2. Increase the number of African American faculty.
  3. Retain and promote African American faculty, staff and administrators.
  4. Improve the retention and graduation rates of African American students. The goal is not only to graduate our students, but also to prepare them for graduate school. Therefore, the goal is to expand the TRIO programs by applying for a Ron McNair grant.
  5. Prepare students to live and work in a diverse and global society by expanding study abroad opportunities for students.
  6. Build and/or expand bridges to the community focusing on the needs of low-income and minority communities.
  7. Work with various external constituencies such as the African American Alumni Council.
