The Black Diamond Choir is a gospel-performing group composed of U of L students and provides one-hour credit for participants. The leadership team of the choir meets regularly in the Minority Affairs Building. The University of Louisville's Project Upward Bound is a federally funded project that has existed on campus for more than 35 years. The program serves high school students from first generation and/or low income families. The Youth Toward Excellence (YTEP) is a state funded venture of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Governor's Minority College Preparation Program (GMSCPOP) Program and is designed to assist and motivate low income and/or first generation college going youth to excel academically in middle school and as freshmen in high school. Student National Coordinating Committee (SNCC)
The role of the SNCC is to serve as a voice of progressive political and social consciousness and collective action. Perry W. Green III is the chair of SNCC. In addition to Perry, these are the current officers: Victor Mwimanzi, Vice Chair; Rosie Washington, Secretary; Juanita Scott, Treasurer; Mikal Forbush, Chief of Staff; and Adam Elmaghraby, Historian.
SNCC members have participated in the March on Washington (December 2006) involving the U.S. Supreme Court case, Meredith v. Board of Education and participated in the rally in Frankfort, Ky regarding the funding of higher education (February 2007).
Most recently, the group has been involved in the Jena 6 case which made national attention.
SNCC Week will be celebrated in January 2008 and will include commemoration of birthdays for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Muhammad Ali and a Mock Trial. For a complete listing of events, email Juanita Scott at jmscot05@louisville.edu
The Association of Black Students (ABS) is the umbrella organization for all the recognized black student organizations at U of L.

The ABS meeting dates are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 5 p.m. in the Minority Affairs Building

The Society of Porter Scholars
The Society of Porter Scholars was named after Woodford R. Porter, Sr., who was the first African American to serve as chair of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees. The group was formed in 1986 to provide academic and social support to the Woodford R. Porter, Sr. Scholarship recipients and to promote interaction, enhance leadership opportunities and development, as well as encourage professional/graduate education.

Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS)
