In his hour-long lecture as a guest of the McConnell Center, Hillsdale history professor Richard M. Gamble, PhD, will discuss his recent publication, In Search of the City on a Hill: The Making and Unmaking of an American Myth (2012). Gamble will trace the American history of the "city on a hill" metaphor from its Puritan beginnings to its role in Reagan's American civil religion and beyond.
About Richard M. Gamble, PhD
Richard Gamble is the Anna Margaret Ross Alexander Chair in History and Political Science and associate professor of history at Hillsdale College. He earned his PhD from the University of South Carolina.
