Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, and Gheens Science Hall & Rauch Planetarium are co-sponsoring a free public lecture on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the planetarium.  Professor Christopher Graney, physicist and astronomer at Jefferson Community & Technical College will speak on “Galileo , Marius, and the Earliest Telescopic Studies of Stars.”  Click here for details.

Holiday Parties at the Planetarium and Holiday Show Premier!

The planetarium is welcoming the holiday season with the premier of Season of Light – a show designed to deepen your knowledge of the winter sky as well as your appreciation of the richness of the holiday traditions you and your family hold dear. Additionally we will show the ever-popular Holiday Laser Music Show and have lots of family-friendly activities and fun. Parties are on Saturday, December 5 and December 19, 11 am – 3 pm.  Looking for a great way to get into the spirit of the season?  We're offering Season of Light and Holiday Laser Music Show double headers Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 at 11 am and 2 pm and on Wednesday, December 23 at 2 pm. See both shows for the discounted admission of $7/person (regular admission fees: $7/adult per show and $5/child per show). While you're here, stop by our Gift Shop for some out-of-this-world gifts. Astronaut Ice Cream is a great stocking stuffer! Parking for shows during the day is available in the yellow lots by the planetarium (click here for directions and a campus parking map).

Water on the Moon!

NASA today opened a new chapter in our understanding of the moon. Preliminary data from the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, indicates that the mission successfully uncovered water during the Oct. 9, 2009 impacts into the permanently shadowed region of Cabeus cater near the moon's south pole. Cosmic Explorers 2009 Season Announced!
