As the Advisor for the ULSD Chapter of the Student National Dental Association I am excited because of the great things that continue to happen with the chapter members! Dr. Sherry Babbage attended the meeting and passed along the great news: Our SNDA chapter won 1st place in the Medium Chapter of the Year Award. This award is based on community service contribution, chapter activity, attendance, and member involvement. This is a huge accomplishment considering UofL's Chapter is among the newest chapters, and there are more "medium" chapters that have been in existence for more than 10 years! In addition, our SNDA chapter also won 2nd place in the Scrapbook competition...only second to the student chapter that is the home of the National Dental Association...which isn't bad. They better watch out for next year!
We also have a shining star in our midst. Student Doctor Harrison Black, the SNDA President and a third year dental student, was presented with an award given by Colgate Palmolive in conjunction with the Kentucky Dental Society, based on an essay that he wrote comparing access to emergency dental care to access to emergency medical care.
Way to go Harrison! I am proud to be instrumental in keeping our students involved with organized dentistry, both locally and nationally.
