Virtual Freshman Orientation - Spring

Virtual Freshman Orientation

With the health and safety of our newest Cardinals as a top priority, Spring 2021 New Cards Orientation will be a Virtual Orientation Program.  While many things in the world around us are changing and uncertain, our commitment remains the same - supporting our students and families in their transition to the Cardinal Family while providing the best possible orientation experience.

Virtual Freshman Orientation

For Spring 2021, Virtual Orientation will be provided for all students at no charge, and registration is not required.

Access to Virtual Freshman Orientation will be added to your New Cards Gateway after you have submitted your freshman enrollment deposit.  You can complete your Virtual Freshman Orientation module at your own pace – you will not be required to login on a specific date/time; however, you should expect the entire module to take about 2 hours to complete.  You will be able to start and stop as you need to, but will be required to complete all sections of the module in order to successfully complete your orientation requirement.

The module will consist of multiple sections that present to you information you would have received at a traditional freshman orientation session in a variety of ways to try to maximize engagement and learning, including videos, voiceovers, and presentations.

You must complete the entire Virtual Orientation module before your Academic Advising appointment.  Please complete at least one business day before your appointment to make sure you have access to register for classes.

To access Virtual Freshman Orientation

  • Log into your New Cards Gateway (available approximately 1 hour after submitting your enrollment deposit)
    • You will login to your Gateway with your personal email address and password created at the time of application to UofL

  • You enter your userID@louisville.edu email address incorrectly

Academic Advising

Contact your academic advising unit as soon as possible to schedule an academic advising appointment.  A list of advising centers can be found by clicking here.  Once on the page, select your advising unit to find information about how to schedule an appointment.  If you are unsure which advising unit you should contact, please email us at orient@louisville.edu and we will assist you.

You must complete your Virtual Freshman Orientation module before your appointment in order to enroll in classes with your advisors assistance at the conclusion of your appointment.  There is also important information to help you prepare for advising in the Virtual Freshman Orientation module.

Make sure you are ready for your appointment...click here for steps to help you prepare!

Academic Advising Intake Form:  You will need to complete an Academic Advising Intake Form prior to your advising appointment.  The form will be accessible in your New Cards Gateway approximately 1 hour after you submit your enrollment deposit.  Careful completion of this form will help your advisor provide you with individualized guidance based on your plans, interests, and possible areas of needed support.

Course Enrollment

Course registration for freshmen will be available beginning on November 9th and 10th according to student last name.  Click here to find the Spring 2021 course registration schedule.

All students must complete both Virtual Orientation and attend an academic advising appointment before gaining access to course enrollment for spring 2021.  If you have already completed your entire Virtual Freshman Orientation module before your Academic Advising appointment (which we highly recommend!) you will be able to register for your classes immediately with the assistance of your advisor.  Otherwise, you will gain access to course registration approximately 48 hours after completion of the orientation program.
