Is Liberal Studies for me?
The Individualized Major through the Liberal Studies Program is intended to allow students to, within certain academic guidelines, design their own program of study.
To determine if an Individualized Major is right for you, answer the following questions:
What professional goal do I hope to reach? -or- What academic field do I hope to explore?
Since you will design your degree around this goal or field of study, you must know this answer before contacting the Program. In order to move toward a destination, you must know where you want to go.
Can that goal be attained through any other major offered at U of L?
If so, you need to pursue that specific major.
Is my cumulative GPA 2.0 or higher?
Admission to the Liberal Studies program is selective and based upon approval of a program proposal as well as academic performance. The average cumulative grade point average for a Liberal Studies candidate is 3.2.
Liberal Studies is NOT
Because it is sometimes simpler to say what something is NOT...
The Liberal Studies Program is not
- a general studies degree
- a collection of unrelated disciplines or areas of study
- an after-thought
- a shortcut to graduation
- (in this case, does not) come with a pre-determined curriculum
