Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry
The BA degree in chemistry is designed for students who want a more general education than is possible in the BS curriculum, while at the same time receiving a substantial background in chemistry. For several related fields, this program offers a broad pre-professional education.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
The BS in Chemistry degree program is designed to prepare professional chemists for industrial, governmental, academic, and research positions. This curriculum meets approved requirements for professional training. Students completing the BS in Chemistry may pursue one of these tracks:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry - Standard Degree Track
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry - Biochemistry Concentration
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry - Business Concentration

Departmental Scholarships

Kenneth E. Moreland Scholarship. 

The Kenneth E. Moreland Scholarship provides a $1000 scholarship to a full-time undergraduate student that is a rising junior – senior in the Department of Chemistry. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need and scholastic merit. Preference is given to students who are from the Louisville Metro area followed by those from anywhere in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The scholarship is named in memory of Kenneth E. Moreland, who received his graduate and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry from the University of Louisville in 1949 and 1948, respectively. He used his chemistry training extensively throughout a long career that included working as a chemical engineer in the US Army and in the CIA.

First-Year Chemistry Student Scholarships. 

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville (UofL) is offering three $500 scholarships to be awarded in Spring 2022 for first-year undergraduate students that are chemistry majors or intended chemistry majors.

Two Department of Chemistry Scholarships will be awarded to first-year students. One scholarship gives preference to support the education of women in chemistry and one scholarship gives preference to support the education of underrepresented minorities (U.S. citizens who identify as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian) or first- generation college students in chemistry. Applicants must be chemistry majors or intended chemistry majors that first enrolled at UofL in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022.

The Department of Chemistry Honors Scholarship will be awarded to one first-year student in the Honors Program. Chemistry majors or intended chemistry majors that first enrolled at UofL in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 and are currently enrolled in CHEM 202H and CHEM 209H are eligible to apply.
