POSITION TITLE: Graduate Assistant for Peer Career Advisor Program (2026-2027)

This is a 12-month commitment from August 1 through July 31, 20 hours a week.

CLASSIFICATION/SALARY:      
12-month Graduate Assistant - total compensation is $47,373, which consists of a 12-month stipend of $1,750/$21,000 total; tuition for fall, spring, and summer terms for $7,652 per term/$22,956 total, and $3,417 for health insurance.

This GA position covers full in-state tuition. No professional program tuition is covered in full (Law, Dental, Medicine, Business, etc). For out of state residents, the UCC will submit an out of state waiver on your behalf to the Graduate School. If the Graduate School has the funding they will sometimes cover the difference between in-state and out of state tuition. There is no guarantee that this will happen every year.

POSITION SUMMARY:             
Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Document Drop Program and resume-related classroom assignments, including managing workflow, maintaining highly accurate records, and tracking and analyzing program data. Recruit, train, and supervise 3–4 Peer Career Advisors (PCAs), and coordinate all programming and scheduling of the program. PCAs are trained to assist students with resume and cover letter development, career center technology, and other online resources. PCAs promote and administer the online Document Drop Program, assist with career fairs, host promotional tables on campus, and engage in other activities designed to increase student engagement.

EDUCATION:                           
Must be enrolled at UofL in a Graduate program all three terms: fall 2026, spring 2027, and summer 2027.

SOFTWARE:                             

  • Microsoft: minimum intermediate level in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn programs such as Cardinal Careers, Big Interview, Focus 2, and GoinGlobal to promote student usage.
  • Teacher/assistant level management of Blackboard (training provided)

DUTIES:                                   
Document Drop and Resume Reviews

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Document Drop Program and resume-related class assignments.
  • Distribute resumes to PCAs for review and ensure all documents are completed, tracked, and documented accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize Blackboard to manage and support the review of classroom assignments.
  • Maintain highly accurate records of documents and program activity.
  • Pull, track, and analyze program data using Excel to support reporting and assessment.
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects with varying timelines while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Work with Career Coaches to schedule class resume assignments, distributing documents to other staff during peak periods. 

Peer Career Advisor Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of a cohort of 3 or 4 PCAs.
  • Provide initial and ongoing training to PCAs in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with supervisor and PCAs.
  • Coordinate PCA work schedules and participation in resource fairs, tabling events, and other activities throughout the year.  

Career Assistance

  • Provide written resume and cover letter critiques to students (upon completion of training).
  • Promote student engagement in utilizing the Document Drop Program, tracking critiques in Excel and Cardinal Careers.
  • Coordinate, promote, and conduct Drop-In assistance during established hours.
  • Create documents outlining usage of programs such as Cardinal Careers, Big Interview, Focus 2 and GoinGlobal.
  • Update and edit existing guides (resume, cover letter, references, etc.)

Miscellaneous

  • Attend UCC staff meetings.    
  • Attend UCC committee meetings as necessary.  
  • Assist with career fairs throughout the semester.

WORK ENVIRONMENT             
The UCC is a designated student-facing office and staff are required to conduct their work in the office. This position is not eligible for remote work. This position will have a dedicated office space.

  • Minimum of intermediate Excel abilities.
