Post-Bac Pre-Med Program
Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program
The Post-bac Pre-med Program is one program with two components: career changers and record enhancers. Both components share the same goal - to become the physician they always wanted to be.
Career Changers
"Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."
— Earl Nightingale
The career changer component is for college graduates who wish to change their career to become a physician but lack the pre-med requirements and preparation for medical school admission. There are ten spots available for a new cohort of students to participate in a two-year program. It is possible to complete the program in less than two years pending course load. This component offers assured admission to the UofL School of Medicine.
Record Enhancers
"If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place."
— Nora Roberts
The record enhancer component is for pre-med students who have graduated from college and taken the majority or all of their pre-med requirements or may have already taken the MCAT or applied to medical school and wish to improve their credentials to be more competitive for medical admission. There are fifteen spots available for a new cohort of students. There are two options:
- Track 1: Focus on retaking or completing core pre-med classes and upper-level science courses, with added support in MCAT preparation and learning strategies.
- Track 2: Pursue a one-year non-thesis MS in Physiology to further enhance your credentials at the graduate level. This is in collaboration with the Department of Physiology in the School of Medicine. Click here to find more information about the MS in Physiology.
