Joining ULtra
ULtra is a program offering academic support services for Jefferson Community & Technical College students planning to transfer to UofL. It’s our goal to get you connected to UofL before you transfer!
Here’s how:
- Guaranteed admission to UofL
- After earning 24 transferable credits
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 (higher GPA for some majors)
- Application fee waiver ($30)
- Academic Advising - ULtra participants will be assigned a dedicated ULtra advisor to help ease their transfer process as they start at JCTC with the goal of finishing at UofL.
- Automatic consideration for KCTCS Transfer Scholarship after 40 transferable hours and a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
- An opportunity for free tuition by participating in the Metropolitan College Program. Work at UPS and get tuition benefits, bonuses, books, a weekly paycheck and more.
- A report every semester on your progress toward a UofL degree.
- Exclusive additional benefits with a UofL Cardinal Card student ID.
- Ride the entire TARC bus system for free
- Ability to purchase a discounted semesterly membership to UofL's Student Recreation Center, including participation in fitness classes, intramural and club sports
- Ability to purchase UofL student football and basketball tickets, plus free entry to all other UofL athletic events
- Access to UofL's libraries
- Access to purchase a semesterly discounted membership to
the Student Recreation Center - Access to Cardinal services and events like Welcome Week,
career fairs and more - Eligibility to live in UofL affiliated housing and or to join the Transfer Themed Community.
High School Seniors Planning to Attend JCTC
If you would like to be an ULtra student, you will need to complete the following steps:
- Apply to Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC).
- Attend a Registration and Advising Day (RAD) Session at Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC).
- Contact an ULtra advisor to sign up for ULtra:
- Stop by the ULtra Office located on the second floor of JCTC's Smith Library
- Email ultra@louisville.edu
Students Currently Enrolled at JCTC
- Contact an ULtra advisor to sign up for ULtra:
- Stop by the ULtra Office located on the second floor of JCTC's Smith Library
- Email ultra@louisville.edu
- Once you sign up for ULtra, you will remain an ULtra student until you opt-out of the program. You do not need to sign up every semester. If you would like to opt-out please come to our office.
KCTCS to UofL Pathway
Use the KCTCS Transfer Degree Pathways to help guide your journey at KCTCS so you can transfer to UofL easily when the time comes.
- Students who follow the pathways are guaranteed all the KCTCS courses indicated in the pathway will be accepted at UofL.
- The courses will count toward the completion of a particular major at UofL.
Transferring to UofL
Apply to UofL via the Take Flight Application.
- ULtra students do not pay the application fee.
- If you have earned less than 24 college credits, you must send your official high school transcript and ACT scores to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
- Send an official transcript to UofL from EVERY college you have attended.
- JCTC transcripts are sent free of charge to ULtra participants. Contact ultra@louisville.edu to request your official JCTC transcript to be sent to UofL.
- How to submit school forms and documents
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you haven't already or update your existing FAFSA by adding UofL’s school code 001999.
Deadlines to file to allow time for processing:
- Nov. 1 for the spring semester
- June 1 for the fall semester
Contact your home institution to inform them that you will not be enrolled the next semester. Jefferson requires you go to the Financial Aid office and give them written notification that you will be transferring your financial aid to a different school.
- KCTCS Transfer Scholarship
- Apply for the KCTCS Transfer Scholarship if you are transferring in the summer or fall, have 40 or more credits and a GPA of 3.25 or better.
- Transfer & Adult Scholarships
- Student Financial Aid Office list of additional scholarships
- Your admission decision will come in the mail and in your New Cards Gateway. Both your letter and gateway will include information on next steps to join the Cardinal family.
- To check on the status of your application, please contact the your admissions counselor or reach out to UofL Transfer & Adult Services directly at 502-852-0166 or transfer@louisville.edu.
- To petition for admission, please complete the admissions petition form.
- After you have been admitted, please check the Transfer To-Do List to make sure you have completed all the necessary steps before school starts!

Being in the ULtra program helped with the transition to UofL. The environment at UofL is very inviting. My classmates are eager to learn, and so am I. The school offers so much and feels very welcoming. The educators are passionate about what they teach. I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here.
