Classroom Reading Endorsement (P-12)
The teaching endorsements are programs designed to broaden the expertise and knowledge base of Kentucky educators at various levels, while adding valuable credentials through certifications to a Kentucky teaching license.
The Classroom Reading Endorsement (P-12) 15 credit hours program is offered 100% online and may be completed as a standalone endorsement, or completed as part of the Master of Education (Teaching and Learning) (30 credit hours), the Master of Education in Literacy (36 credit hours) or the Rank I program (30 credit hour program for Kentucky teachers only).
The online courses are asynchronous (anytime, anywhere) sessions with a synchronous requirement (predetermined times of day – students have the option to choose a preferred time). This learning method is proved to be most effective and it is designed to accommodate various learning styles and work/teaching schedules. Online students also retain the flexibility of attending courses on-campus.
This endorsement prepares students to be better teachers of reading and writing in their own classrooms and to broaden their understanding of working with P-12 students of varying abilities. The program also strives to help teachers understand the diverse populations and communities they work in and how to create intellectually challenging learning spaces for all students.
Teachers often seek out this teaching endorsement program because of the wide array of challenges they face in the classroom, particularly in helping children within a large spectrum of skills and challenges in reading, writing, speaking and listening. This program expands the definition of literacy and prepares you to create learning opportunities in your classroom that can empower every student to tackle and overcome the challenges of literacy in the 21st century.
This endorsement is ideal for current teachers or those who have completed student teaching and are seeking a full-time teaching job. All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a valid initial teacher certification to be eligible for enrollment in the Classroom Reading Endorsement (P-12).
In order to add the P-12 Classroom Reading Endorsement to your teaching license, you have to pass a Praxis test. To select the correct Praxis test for Kentucky, access the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) Praxis Test website:
