Multidisciplinary Team of Specialists in Epilepsy
The University of Louisville Hospital is a Level 4 Epilepsy Center certified by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. We have assembled a team of clinical specialists each of whom has special qualifications in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. The team includes:
- Six neurologists with expertise in diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy:
- Dr. Brittany Chapman, Dr. M. Steven Evans, Dr. Alexi Hernandez, Dr. Adriana Palade, Dr. Vishwaneth Sagi and Dr. Chris Shafer
- All are expert in EEG, video EEG and other clinical neurophysiology studies, selection of patients for surgery for epilepsy and in the pharmacology of antiepileptic medications. All are certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology. All are also certified in Epilepsy, or in Clinical Neurophysiology or both.
- Drs. Chapman and Palade also have special training and expertise in sleep disorders, with board certification in that area.
- Dr. Joseph Neimat, neurosurgeon. Dr. Neimat is Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and has expertise in resective epilepsy surgery, ablative laser surgery for epilepsy, intracranial EEG electrode placement and stereo-EEG, vagus nerve stimulator surgery and in placement of the Responsive Neuromodulation System.
- Dr. Brandon Dennis, neuropsychologist with expertise in clinical neuropsychology and Wada testing.
- Social worker with experience in coordination of epilepsy services in an outpatient setting
- Clinical nurse specialists with certified training in EEG monitoring and epilepsy care
