The Office of Research and Innovation is excited to announce a new tool, Symplectic Elements from Digital Science, that will help faculty and researchers create a customizable and comprehensive public profile at UofL.
These profiles require minimal curation, and most information, including your contact information, publications, patents, grants, and more, is automatically populated after you have linked your account to professional identifiers, such as your ORCID.
This automation reduces the burden of updating your profile and will deliver new insights about collaborative networks that could help expand your work. You can use your public profile to demonstrate your impact and expertise, explore internal and external collaborations, find mentorship opportunities, and dive into connections across institutional networks.
Symplectic Elements from Digital Science is a highly configurable research management system that ingests data from multiple sources to build a comprehensive picture of scholarly activities, including sponsored research, scholarship, teaching and professional activities for individual faculty profiles.
For the past five years, UofL has contracted with Interfolio products to streamline Faculty Affairs processes, including UofLFolio (Faculty 180) for tracking faculty activities and creating faculty profiles. Interfolio RPT (Review, Promotion, Tenure) will remain in use for reviewing personnel actions such as promotion, tenure, and sabbatical leave requests.
Full-time faculty who build their profiles in Elements will have them connected to UofL's new website. This will allow you to keep your website profile complete and up-to-date with your latest grants, publications, etc., without any extra effort or steps.
ORCID is a free, unique, persistent identifier that helps you to distinguish yourself and save time on manuscript submissions, university reporting, and grant applications. Information tied to your ORCiD account will automatically populate in Symplectic Elements, making setting up your profile quick and easy. More information on ORCiD is available here.
Each academic unit has a point person who has been trained in the use of the Elements product. These trainers will help you and others in your unit navigate the system and answer any questions you may have while building your profile. You can find the contact for your unit below.
