Bluegrass Biodesign is an accelerated educational program designed to expose participants to the three major phases of Biodesign through hands-on experience. The program is modeled after the Stanford Biodesign Program and utilizes the Biodesign: The Process of Innovating Medical Technologies text* as the cornerstone for the curriculum. The text is supplemented with guest speakers and interactive workshops.

*Textbooks were kindly donated by Dr. Joseph Neimat, Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery.

Over the course of the academic year participants will create a project and take it through the three phases of Biodesign:

  • Problem identification through shadowing and interviews in April
  • Invention of solutions with engineering teams in August
  • Basics of implementation with a solution pitch day in early January
