Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Is this an elective or do I get some type of course credit from the school?
- No. Course credit is not offered and thus you are not given a grade at the end
What can I expect to gain by the end of the program?
- There are many avenues to take your project depending on the stage the product is in and the amount of time you wish to commit. Some options include filing for a patent, getting a paper published, presenting at a conference, or attempting to start your own company. Either way, the decision to continue or not to continue working on your project at the program’s end is entirely up to you.
How much of a time commitment will this be?
- This is an extensive time commitment. You are expected to complete the assigned lecture modules and provide weekly emails to update the student board and faculty members on the progress of your projects. It is mandatory that you attend all lectures (about 2-3 every month) and all deliverables (1 a month). It is also encouraged to meet with your team of students and faculty members on a consistent basis.
Do I have to have an engineering background to apply?
- No. Although special consideration is given to those with this kind of experience, what we really want are examples of genuine interest in innovating medicine.
Are we expected to have a fully built and functioning prototype?
- No. Although you can, all we expect at the very least is a proof of concept, or some type of model that shows your idea or product is a feasible solution.
