Background

The healthcare spend in the United States is nearly $3 trillion and represents close to 20% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is estimated that fully one-third of this spend is non-value added. In the wake of the Affordable Care Act, a sea of change has been rolled out with a principal mandate to improve value in our health system. And while most health professionals buy in to this value agenda, a clear blueprint as to how systems can efficiently transition does not exist. On the contrary, in many instances, there is a distinct lack of data upon which we can make informed decisions about where best to invest our time and resources.

Who We Are

The University of Louisville School of Medicine’s Center for Health Process Innovation (CHPI) seeks to transform the science of healthcare delivery.

We believe this takes active engagement from all stakeholders, including patients, enterprise systems, industry, and state and federal government. There is a critical need for more robust data to inform the rollout of new health delivery models. This need has never been more acute as healthcare systems and payers face mandates to demonstrate value and improved patient outcomes in the face of deteriorating margins.
