Four McConnell Scholars selected as top 20 candidates for Homecoming Court
Louisville, Ky. (October 13, 2023) - Four senior McConnell Scholars have been selected as top 20 candidates for the University of Louisville’s 2023 Homecoming Court.
The scholars nominated include:
- Yelena Bagdasaryan: Engage Lead Serve Board
- Paighton Brooks: Society of Porter Scholars
- Sawyer Depp: Student Government Association
- Mary Catherine Medley: Kappa Delta Sorority
Each scholar was nominated by a student organization and advanced to the top 20 after completing a UofL alumni-led interview process.
The scholars have now moved on to a campus-wide election process that continues through Oct. 16. The Homecoming Court will then be narrowed down to the top 10 candidates, with the King and Queen announced at the UofL football game on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Candidates are nominated to the Homecoming Court based on their academic merit, demonstration of leadership, and involvement on campus and the greater Louisville community. These four scholars have exemplified the McConnell Center’s pillars of leadership, scholarship,, and service throughout their time at the University of Louisville and will continue honing these skills during their remaining undergraduate careers.
The McConnell Scholars Program is a prestigious leadership and scholarship program at the University of Louisville open to graduating Kentucky high school seniors with a strong demonstrated record of leadership, scholarship, and service. Around ten students are added each year with a maximum of 40 McConnell Scholars in the program at one time.
