Remembering Dr. Cecilia Yappert

On behalf of the LALS Steering Committee, I would like to express our deepest sorrow upon the loss of our beloved colleague and friend, Dr. Cecilia Yappert. Cecilia was a vital member of the LALS Steering Committee and always supported the events that the LALS Program sponsored. As a native from Santa Fe, Argentina, she especially enjoyed meeting the many Argentine writers whom we invited to campus to give lectures and speak with students in the classroom. Numerous times Cecilia accepted my invitation to speak to my Spanish classes about her experiences growing up in Argentina, particularly about the impact of the dictatorship of 1976-1983. She was also a close personal friend and I will miss her smile, her laughter, and vital spirit. A memorial service in her honor will take place on October 9, 2020, which would have been her birthday, at the Cathedral of the Assumption at 12pm, followed by a burial at Cave Hill Cemetery at 1:30pm.
