Logan Weaver: Sharing the Stories Behind Research and Innovation at UofL’s School of Medicine

Groundbreaking discoveries at the University of Louisville School of Medicine are constantly making headlines for their impact on patient care and medical innovation. Behind many of these stories is a student helping bring them to life. With support from the University Career Center and Cardinal Careers, a UofL undergraduate is gaining hands-on experience through an internship that spotlights researchers shaping the future of medicine.
While many students come to the School of Medicine to make a difference in clinical settings, Logan Weaver, a current student in the College of Arts & Sciences, found her place telling the stories behind medical breakthroughs. The School of Medicine is home to a state-of-the-art facility where faculty lead the way in medical innovation. Its departments advance knowledge through distinctive education, transformative research, and exceptional patient care while preparing future physicians for today’s complex medical environment. When Logan began her internship in January 2026 as a Communications Student Assistant in the School of Medicine’s Communications and Marketing Department, she sought to gain real-world experience and explore different areas of the field, while celebrating the successes of the school. “I really wanted to build on the communication and knowledge I had already learned in my classes.”
Although content is created by authors across many campus offices, UofL maintains a consistent and professional institutional voice. Weaver’s primary role is writing feature articles for the School of Medicine’s website while ensuring that voice remains clear, polished, and engaging. “Honestly, I really love doing the research. Getting to meet the people that I am writing these stories about, interacting with them, and sharing their experiences is my favorite part.” With monthly publications highlighting different initiatives across the School of Medicine, Weaver enjoys interviewing UofL staff to learn about their work and write about how their discoveries impact the Cardinal community and beyond.
Weaver knew she wanted an internship in communication that would help her build on her foundational skills, but she was unsure where to start. After exploring Cardinal Careers, the University of Louisville’s student hiring platform, she discovered the Communications Student Assistant internship.
Having previously worked with University Career Center career coach Dominic Cassiere, Weaver knew she wanted his guidance when applying for the position. “Let me go talk to Dominic and see if he can help me figure out how to apply for this.” Cassiere supported Weaver throughout the process, helping her develop her application materials, refine her portfolio, and prepare for interviews to ensure she was fully prepared. “The Career Center 100 percent prepared me. I felt so confident going into my interview… I knew other applicants did not have the same levels of preparation. Working with Dominic really gave me a strong advantage in the application process.”
For students interested in pursuing experiential learning opportunities, Weaver advises, “Use the resources the university gives you, stay on top of opportunities, be inquisitive, and reach out to people you know. Use your connections. You never know where an opportunity might open up, so take initiative and follow up.”
Weaver plans to graduate from the University of Louisville in May 2027 with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication and Humanities and hopes to pursue a career in public relations. Connect with Logan Weaver on LinkedIn to stay updated on her journey and continued success.
