Eileen Yanoviak has successfully defended her dissertation, "Farmsteads: Picturing Land Transformation in Nineteenth-Century America." Congratulations!

Laurie Blayney (BFA 2000) is having a solo exhibition entitled "False Light" at the Hyland Glass Gallery. This body of work consists of mixed media imagery from observations at protests, rallies and gatherings over the past few years. The title refers to the inaccurate representation of these events by the media focusing on the sensational and shocking. The process is digital manipulation of photographs of paint, organic shapes, digital drawing and painting. The limited edition prints are dye-sublimation on aluminum.

Jake Ford (BFA 2015) is presenting a new body of art work in a solo show entitled "Form Follows Function" in the Huff Gallery at Spalding University. This exhibition consists of new drawings and sculptures by Jake Ford and some collaborative works by Jake Ford and Jackson Taylor (BFA 2017).

The Open Studio Weekend 2017 tour features a juried exhibition at the Hite Art Institute's Cressman Center for Visual Arts. More than forty artworks, selected from over 200 submissions, will be revealed during the Open Studio launch party on November 3, 2017, 6-8 p.m.

As a master at the forefront of Japanese glass art, Hiroshi Yamano’s work is internationally respected for both its abundance of content as well as its refined level of execution.  Yamano’s glass moves beyond pure aesthetics and explores specific narratives by tying together themes of Japanese culture, nature, and the struggles of humankind.  As objects and installations, Hiroshi Yamano’s pieces evidence an absolute mastery and refinement of cold, warm, and hot glassworking techniques and processes.

A career artist and an educator, Hiroshi Yamano has helped to establish and fortify the pursuit and study of contemporary glass art in Japan. He is a co-founder of Ezra Glass Studio, and Chairperson of the Osaka University of the Arts Glass Program.  In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious Rakow Commission by the Corning Museum of Glass. His work can be found on display in galleries throughout the world.

Eileen Yanoviak (PhD Candidate in Art History) will present her paper "Subsistence to Agribusiness: American Farmstead Imagery in the Nineteenth Century" today(Friday, October 27) at the Southeastern College Art Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

This morning (October 26) Professor Meena Khalili presented her paper “Teaching Fearless Design: Establishing Value With Intention At The New Frontier” at the Southeastern College Art Conference panel on graphic design technology and pedagogy in Columbus, Ohio.

Hank Adams is a world-renowned glass artist and the Creative Director of the glass studio at the Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, New Jersey. Hank began his studies in glass as a student of Dale Chihuly at the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1970’s. He has taught at numerous educational facilities, including Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State, and UrbanGlass in New York. In addition to his extensive international exhibition record, Hank Adams has been the esteemed recipient of three National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.

Hank Adams is one of the most engaging artists in the field of contemporary glass. Though his sculptural pieces are immediately recognizable to those familiar with glass art, his work and methods extend beyond the boundaries of traditional sculpture and often reside at the intersection of architecture, installation, and performance.  His demonstration at the Cressman Center is guaranteed to be educational as well as entertaining.

Two teams from U of L Hite Art Institute's Interior design program participated in Product Runway this Thursday. One of the teams received Second Prize. Product Runway is a fashion show/contest challenging Interior Designers/Students to design and hand make garments constructed out of materials such as wall-covering, carpet, tile and commercial office furnishings. MFA student Zed Saeed won the Best in Show award at the 2017 Midwest SPE (The Society for Photographic Education) Conference student exhibition in Peoria Illinois. The awards event took place at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and the exhibition is at Peoria Public Library. The award winning photo is one of his images from the "36 Miles-Revealing the Ohio" project.

Meet Hite alumnus Kevin Warth (16) who is interviewed in the October issue of Louisville Magazine. Not only did Kevin receive a degree in photography, he also double majored with a degree in art history. His work explores identity, sexuality, and the body, which has cumulated in his recent solo exhibition, home sweet home at Garner Narrative through October 27 in conjunction with the Louisville Photo Biennial.

The UofL Alumni Association established the Alumni Fellows program in 1983. These awards recognize graduates who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields and are exemplary ambassadors for the university and their college or school. Recipients reflect the high standing and character of their alma mater. The 2017 Wilson Wyatt Alumni Fellow for the College of Arts & Sciences is Kenneth R. Crawford, II. 

Kenneth R. Crawford, II received his Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts with a concentration in Interior Design from the University of Louisville in 1987.

Crawford is the President of Kenneth Crawford Interiors located in Hollywood, Florida. He is an Interior Designer with over 25 years of experience in residential and commercial Interior Design.

Crawford worked briefly for a Louisville firm before transferring to Atlanta to work for Casablanca Designs for four years. He then went to work for a design firm out of Fort Lauderdale. Crawford has designed restaurants in Japan, France, Canada and the United States. He has designed across the United States, in areas such as Fisher Island, Golden Beach, Turnberry Beach Club, Pine Crest, Porto Vita North and South Towers, Continuum, Woodfield Country Club, Two Liberty in Philadelphia and numerous other prominent locations. Crawford has designed for several high profile individuals, including a member of the royal family of Kuwait and a member of the Marley family. Crawford’s work has been published in a number of design magazines and on television. He has received multiple interior design awards including Best Designer by Houzz in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Crawford resides in Hollywood, Florida.

Professor Moonhe Baik will present a solo exhibition of her new work entitled "Memories" at Asia Institute | Crane House. This new series of work was created entirely with hanji, a Korean handmade paper. This exhibition represents her reflections of both her birthplace Seoul, South Korea, and her current home Louisville.

Miranda Becht (MFA 2017) has been accepted into the Hadley Creatives Program. Through a competitive application process, 15 artists who demonstrate potential and readiness to pursue a career as a working artist have been selected for this professional development program. The Community Foundation is partnering with Creative Capital to develop a curriculum that will help local artists build their professional practice, cultivate an expanded peer network, and dedicate time for reflection and planning.

Miranda is currently teaching at the Department of Art of Bellarmine University.

The thesis research project of Scott Rollins (MA student in Curatorial and Critical Studies) on the performance artist Richard Gallo is featured on the cover of Office magazine, a magazine based in NYC, circulated nationally and internationally.
