Training Opportunities
The ULARC offers multiple "hands on" training opportunities for students at all levels of educational attainment. Some of these are listed below.
- Alcohol Summer Students
- Each summer, the ULARC provides a research experience for approximately 7–10 medical students in the laboratories. Students present posters at Research! Louisville in October and vie for awards in multiple categories.
- Undergraduate/High School Alcohol Research Training
- Each summer, the ULARC provides a research experience for undergraduate/high school students in the laboratories (usually 2–4 students). Students present posters at Research! Louisville in October and vie for awards in multiple categories. The Provost provides funding for some of these students.
- Coulter Award
- UofL bioengineering has partnered with the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation to help commercialize promising academic innovations into medical solutions to benefit patients. The Coulter Foundation has formed a working partnership with UofL's bioengineering department to promote translational research
- Career Development awards
- Part of the mentoring mission of the ULARC is to encourage junior faculty to apply for K-type career development awards. At least ten ULARC investigators are now or have been NIH K-awardees.
