Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for clinical compliance

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for clinical compliance

As part of clinical compliance, all students entering pre-licensure programs at the University of Louisville will be required to successfully complete an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or provide documentation of work experience, prior to beginning clinical coursework. At this time, the University of Louisville School of Nursing CNA course is on hold and will not be offered.

The CNA completion or documentation of work experience, is a clinical compliance requirement. Documentation must be submitted to the Office of Student Services one week before classes start.

This requirement is being instituted for two primary reasons:

  • Assure quality of student preparedness during the education of Upper Division Nursing students.
  • Reduce class time to learn basic skills while providing additional time to teach higher level nursing skills.

There are two ways to meet this requirement:

  1. Documentation of completion of a Medicaid approved State Registered Nursing Assistant Program. Students are not required to take the SRNA certificate exam. You can find CNA training through the contacts below or through other state organizations.
