Master of Science in Nursing, Certificate in Health Professions Education Program

The Master of Science in Nursing, Certificate in Health Professions Education degree program is a partnership between the School of Nursing (SON) and the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD.)  In order to earn the MSN, students must complete the requirements for the Certificate in Health Professions Education (HPE).  Students interested in pursuing the HPE Certificate only, should contact the College of Education and Human Development.  http://louisville.edu/education/degrees/gc-hpe

The goal of the MSN graduate credential is to prepare professional nurses in the application of evidence based practice and leadership.  MSN graduate education provides the knowledge base necessary to:

  • Teach in an Associate or Baccalaureate degree program
  • Serve as an educator within the hospital
  • Progress in current employment situation
  • Provide leadership in a variety of settings
  • Promote health education at several levels:  patient, institution, community

The HPE Certificate is designed for those involved in education, learning, and performance improvement in healthcare settings. The program includes faculty, future faculty, clinical educators, residents, and graduate students in health science fields such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, clinical, and allied health professions.  Coursework is focused primarily for healthcare educators.

The school received reaccreditation in 2011 with regular reporting for a period of ten years. Our next accreditation review will be completed before 2021.
