David R. Cunningham, Ph.D.

David Cunningham

Dr. Cunningham received his Ph.D. in Audiology in 1972 from the University of Kansas. He held faculty positions at the University of Kansas, University of Missouri and the University of Rochester prior to becoming Director of the Division of Communicative Disorders, Department of Surgery, University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1977. Dr. Cunningham is the founder and co-director of University Audiology Associates, a faculty-owned private practice which supports the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D) Program at the University of Louisville. For nearly twenty years, he was Director of the WHAS Crusade for Children Audiology and Speech Pathology Center at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Dr. Cunningham's principle interest is in the area of adult amplification and auditory rehabilitation. His research, teaching and patient care activities focus on these aspects of audiologic practice. Dr. Cunningham co-founded "Hear Care Associates", a dispensing office which serves as a training site for the program's Au.D. students. Jill Preminger, Ph.D.

Jill Preminger

Dr. Preminger received her master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Wisconsin in 1982 and her Ph.D. in Audiology from the University of Minnesota in 1993. She has been on the faculty in the Program of Audiology at the University of Louisville since 1998. She teaches courses in the areas of: Acoustics, Speech Acoustics, Research Methods, Gerontology and Educational Audiology. Dr. Preminger coordinates the curriculum and the student research program for the Program in Audiology.

Dr Preminger has an active clinical research program which is focused on adult audiologic rehabilitation. Her current research focuses on the impact of hearing loss on significant others. She is also working with a team of researchers around the world in order to measure the typical journey from hearing loss to hearing aid use. Dr. Preminger has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Dr. Preminger is a past president of the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology, she is an Assistant Editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology and she is associate editor for the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.  Dr. Jill Preminger CV[PDF}

 

 

Barbara Eisenmenger, Au.D.

Barbara Eisenmenger

Dr. Eisenmenger received her master's degree in audiology from Purdue University in 1977, her MBA from University of Louisville in 1988, and her Au.D. degree from University of Louisville in 2003.  She has been with University of Louisville/University Audiology Associates since 1980.  She currently holds an adjunct clinical faculty position at U of L and teaches classes in Essential Techniques, the Adult Audiologic Rehabilitation course, and co-teaches the Cochlear Implant course.

Dr. Eisenmenger provides adult clinical audiology services at University Audiology Associates (UAA) and the Ambulatory Care Building (ACB) at University of Louisville Hospital. She also supervises students at those sites. While at U of L, Dr. Eisenmenger developed and offered audiologic rehabilitation classes to hard-of-hearing patients in the Louisville area. 

Dr. Eisenmenger began working with single channel cochlear implants when she joined the U of L staff and has been providing adult implant services since that time. She currently works with both Cochlear Americas and Advanced Bionics devices. She is Board Certified in Audiology with a specialty certificate in Cochlear Implants.

Dr. Eisenmenger is the professional advisor to the Louisville chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly SHHH) and she was instrumental in the formation of this group. Dr. Barbara Eisenmenger CV[PDF]

 

 

Katherine Fick, Au.D.

Katherine Fick

Dr. Fick is a pediatric audiologist with University Audiology Associates who sees patients at both Kosair Children’s Hospital and UAA.  She received her Master of Arts degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2003 and received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida in 2008.  She also studied Deaf Education prior to entering the field of Audiology and is proficient in sign language.  Prior to joining University Audiology Associates in 2009, Dr. Fick worked at Pitt County Memorial Hospital’s Audiology Department in Greenville, NC where she was a team member of the Cochlear Implant Program of Eastern North Carolina.  She currently works with both Cochlear Americas and Advanced Bionics devices.

Hayley Gardner Godby, Au.D.

Hayley Godby

Dr. Godby is a clinical audiologist with University Audiology Associates.  She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Louisville in 2002, where she was a member of the first graduating Au.D. class and a founding member of the National Association of Future Doctors of Audiology (now the Student Academy of Audiology).  Prior to returning to the University in 2007, Dr. Godby worked in a large private otolaryngology practice in Lexington, Kentucky, where she directed a vestibular disorders clinic.

Dr. Godby divides her time between Kosair Children’s Hospital and University Audiology Associates, providing pediatric diagnostic and hearing aid services, and complete vestibular evaluations for a primarily adult population. 

Dr. Godby is a clinical instructor for the University of Louisville, and is the instructor for the Vestibular Disorders and Management course.  Her primary interests include vestibular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology; assessment and management of vestibular disorders; and patient counseling. Julie M. Manche, Au.D.

Julie Manche

Dr. Manche is a pediatric audiologist with University Audiology Associates. She received her doctorate degree in 2002 from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She completed her 4th year externship and one additional year at Christchurch Public Hospital and Hearing Aid and Audiology Clinic in Christchurch, New Zealand. After returning to the United States late in 2003, she joined the faculty and staff at University Audiology Associates.

Dr. Manche is a clinical instructor for the University of Louisville, and she coordinates Grand Rounds for the program. She teaches in the areas of electrophysiology and auditory processing disorders.  She is also the co-instructor for Essential Techniques in Audiology. Her specialties include the evaluation of hearing in infants and children with an emphasis in electrophysiology and auditory processing. Shelley R. Moats, Au.D.

Shelley Moats

Dr. Moats is a pediatric Audiologist with University Audiology Associates. She received her Master of Science in Audiology from Purdue University in 1996; and received her Doctor of Audiology from Pennsylvania College of Optometry- School of Audiology in 2006. Prior to joining University Audiology Associates in 2005, Dr. Moats worked in a large private otolaryngology/Audiology clinic in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Currently, Dr. Moats divides her time between Kosair Children's Hospital and University Audiology Associates. Her clinical interests include pediatric amplification and audiologic evaluation for infants and children. Dr. Moats has been actively involved in legislative activities affecting Audiology at the state level, and is currently a member of the Professional Development Committee of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Moats is a clinical instructor in the U of L's Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program, and also coordinates clinical practicum placements for the Au.D. students. George O. Purvis, Ph.D.

Dr. Purvis is Chief of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at the V. A. Medical Center in Louisville as well as Chief of Audiology at Ireland Army Community Hospital , Ft. Knox , Kentucky and Tricare Audiology Clinic at the Kentucky Air National Guard Base, Louisville , Kentucky . His main clinical interests are in the area of diagnostic assessment of the auditory and vestibular system, hearing conservation and professional issues. Dr. Purvis has served as Chair of both the Kentucky and California Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology licensure boards. He has served on numerous ASHA boards and committees and is currently serving Coordinator of the Audiology and Hearing Science Assembly of the ASHA Legislative Council. Ann Rothpletz, Ph.D.

Anne Rothpletz

Ann Rothpletz is a research assistant professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville and a clinical instructor in the Department of Audiology. Dr. Rothpletz received a Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Vanderbilt University in 2002 and a Masters of Science in Audiology in 1995 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as a pediatric audiologist at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. and a research associate at the University of Colorado-Boulder prior to coming to Louisville. Dr. Rothpletz spends the majority of her time at the Heuser Hearing Research Center studying speech processing and informational masking in typically developing children and children with cochlear implants. Jennifer Shinn, Ph.D.

Jennifer Shinn

Jennifer B. Shinn, Ph.D., CCC-A, FAAA is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky in the Division of Otolaryngology. Additionally, she is the Chief of Audiology and Resident Research Director at the University of Kentucky and an adjunct faculty member in the Program in Audiology at the University of Louisville. She has a broad experience in a variety of areas of audiology including advanced diagnostics and neuroaudiology, with particular emphasis on diagnosis of auditory processing disorders and subsequent (re)habilitation. She has published both peer reviewed articles as well as book chapters in the above named areas. She has presented in these areas includes at state, national and international meetings. Fred Wightman, Ph.D.

Fred Wightman

Dr. Wightman is a Professor in the Departments of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Surgery (Audiology). He also holds the Heuser Hearing Research Endowed Chair and is Research Director of the Heuser Hearing Institute. His research interests are in the area of normal and impaired human hearing, with specialization in the areas of spatial hearing/sound localization and auditory attention in children. He has published extensively in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Perception and Psychophysics and other journals and is a past Associate Editor of JASA and a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America. His research has been continuously supported by federal grants (NIH, NSF, NASA, ONR) for the last 25 years.
