U of L Hospital

The Doctor of Audiology degree program is a four-year post-bachelor's degree program designed to provide students with the academic and clinical background necessary to enter audiologic practice. The Au.D. program at the University of Louisville draws on the clinical activities of the Louisville Medical Center to provide an exciting educational experience in a dynamic medical environment. The program is physically located at the University of Louisville Health Sciences Campus and administratively located in the Division of Communicative Disorders of the Department of Surgery.

The faculty are committed to the clinical focus of the Au.D. degree and endeavor to bring real-world experiences to bear on the teaching environment. The faculty and staff of the Audiology Section actively participate in the provision of clinical services in both hospital and private practice arenas. Students benefit from the continuity of service across the practice environments as well as the opportunity to interact with faculty, residents and medical students from other disciplines such as otolaryngology, speech pathology and pediatrics. Students also have the opportunity to participate in ongoing clinical research projects.

The Doctor of Audiology Degree was approved by the Council of Post-secondary Education in July, 1997. This program is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A Master's Degree in Audiology is no longer offered at the University of Louisville.

Audiology Mission Statement

The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program at the University of Louisville has administrative and academic roots in both the School of Medicine and the School of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies (S.I.G.S.).  As a “first professional degree” program, the AuD program has reason to honor the mission statements of both Schools.  Additionally, all degree programs are obliged to align their missions with the overarching raison d’être of the University.

The Mission of the University of Louisville, “The University of Louisville shall be a premier, nationally recognized metropolitan research university with a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences and to the intellectual, cultural, and economic development of our diverse communities and citizens through the pursuit of excellence in five interrelated strategic areas: (1) Educational Experience, (2) Research, Creative, and Scholarly Activity, (3) Accessibility, Diversity, Equity, and Communication, (4) Partnerships and Collaborations, and (5) Institutional Effectiveness of Programs and Services.”

The Mission of the School of Medicine is “to be a vital component in the University’s quest to become a premier, nationally recognized metropolitan research university, to excel in the education of physicians and scientists for careers in teaching, research, patient care and community service, and to bring fundamental discoveries of our basic and clinical scientists to the bedside.”

The Mission of the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies is “to cultivate and promote excellence in graduate studies through research and teaching in an environment of cultural and intellectual diversity.”
