Wood E. Currens, D.M.D., has been selected to serve as acting dean of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
Provost Shirley Willihnganz said she is pleased Currens will take on this important post while a search is begun anew for a permanent dean. “The school will be in good hands during this transition. Dr. Currens has spent many years in administration, chaired the Faculty Senate and served as a member of the Board of Trustees,” Willihnganz said. She added her appreciation to former dean Rowland Hutchinson, who took the acting post last year.
Currens has been a member of the dental school faculty since 1970 and has served as acting chair of two departments and assistant dean and/or associate dean for clinical affairs, student and alumni affairs, and alumni and professional relations since 1977.
Currens has also been active in organized dentistry. His posts have included president of the Louisville Dental Society and parliamentarian of the KDA House of Delegates.
