by Continuing Health Sciences Education last modified Feb 23, 2012 04:33 PM

PURPOSE AND TARGET AUDIENCE
This training is the first of its kind for Kentucky hospital medical professionals to address the number one preventable cause of disease and death in our state. It will give examples of how to successfully provide brief bedside interventions for all patients who use tobacco regardless of willingness to quit, in three minutes or less. Recommendations will follow the evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence: 2008 Update and will address medications for cessation or just withdrawal relief and resources for referral. A team approach among all caregivers is encouraged and demonstrated for the greatest impact and time savings.  Discussions of systems approaches, patients' family involvement, and special patient populations are also included.

This course is designed for Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, Tobacco Cessation Specialists, Hospital Administrators, Supervisors and Support Staff.
