DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - ONLINE COURSE

PURPOSE & TARGET AUDIENCE
This course provides an in-depth look at the medical, social
and legal issues surrounding domestic violence. It fulfills the domestic
violence continuing education requirement (Kentucky Regulatory Statute 194)
for health care professionals in the state of Kentucky. The target audience
is physicians and other healthcare professionals who routinely interact
with patients (some of whom may be victims of domestic violence).
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT
Physician Credit - The University of Louisville Continuing Health Sciences Education office designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.The University of Louisville School of Medicine is accredited
by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education
for physicians.
Nursing Credit- This program has been approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing
for 3.6 contact hours through the University of Louisville School of Nursing,
provider number 3-0046-01-2013-169, expiration date December 31, 2012. The
Kentucky Board of Nursing approval of an individual nursing education provider
does not constitute endorsement of program content. Participants must complete
entire session, provide license and social security number and complete
evaluation to receive contact hours.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Following this course participants will have a better understanding
of:
- Recognizing adult and child victimization.
- Identifying behavioral and emotional indicators of patients who may
be victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
- Statistics about victims of domestic violence and the role of health
care professionals to protect patients and report domestic violence cases.
- The integral role of health care professionals in domestic violence
in identifying intervention strategies including legal remedies, reporting
responsibilities and liabilities, and community service for patients.

You cannot take the course on an Apple Macintosh computer or on any other computer that does not have Windows and Internet Explorer.
INSTRUCTIONS
To complete the course, you must review three video lectures, a handout, and take
the online test and online evaluation. If you do not pass the test on the first try, you will be
directed back to this page so you can review the materials again and retake the
test.
As soon as you pass the test, you will fill out a short course
evaluation. You'll be be prompted for your name and the last four digits of your
social security number - after entering the information, your course certificate
will be sent to the email address your provide. You will need to print the certificate out for your
records.
Viewing the lecture is free; the fee for taking the test and receiving
continuing education credit is $25.00 and is payable with Mastercard or Visa. If you are an incoming U of L resident or fellow, you are eligible to
