Course Description and Target
Audience
Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia are common movement disorders that may be difficult to manage at times. In this course, experienced University of Louisville Division of Movement Disorders faculty will use videos to teach state-of-the-art therapeutic approaches to management.
This course is designed for neurologists, physicians, physician assistants and other health professionals serving in the neurology practice setting.

Outcomes
“Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease”
OBJECTIVE: Define the clinical features and diagnostic criteria for Parkinson’s disease and discuss how to differentiate Parkinson’s disease from other parkinsonian disorders.
OUTCOME: You will learn how to recognize and diagnose the various parkinsonian disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease, in the early stages.
“Medication Management in PD”
OBJECTIVE: Discuss available symptomatic pharmacotherapeutic treatments for newly diagnosed Parkinson’s disease; discuss potential side effects of Parkinson’s disease medications; selection and adjustment of medications for patients who have motor complications.
OUTCOME: You will become familiar with available treatments for newly diagnosed Parkinson’s disease and become more comfortable guiding patients in selecting appropriate pharmacotherapy.
“Role of the Nurse Practitioner in Movement Disorders”
OBJECTIVE: Explain the role of the nurse practitioner in the management of movement disorders.
OUTCOME: You will learn the role as well as the benefits of incorporating nurse practitioners in the management of Parkinson’s Disease and other parkinsonian disorders.
“Surgical Management of Parkinson’s Disease"
OBJECTIVE: Review the role of functional neurosurgery, botulinum toxin and rehabilitation services in Parkinson’s disease.
OUTCOME: You will learn how these procedures can benefit patients with Parkinson’s disease.
“Interdisciplinary Allied Health Therapies”
OBJECTIVE: Explain the role of allied health therapies, identify interventions of allied health therapies and discuss the benefits of interdisciplinary health therapies in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
OUTCOME: You will have an understanding of the various roles of allied health therapies in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
