Course Description and Target Audience
In alignment with the new strategic impact goal of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association to improve cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20% by the year 2020, the Louisville Metro office offers its medical community the ability to share in the most recent guidelines, updates and technology related to cardiovascular and stroke care. The program is designed to offer the most current updates and review of cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases in order to translate that knowledge for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and stroke in the Louisville Metro area.

The target audience is Physicians, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, ER Physicians, Nurse Practitioners/CNS/PA, Hospitalists, Neuro Staff Nurses, ER Nurses, Other Nurses interested in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, Pharmacists, Nursing Students, Medical Students.

Dr. Kluger completed a residency in Internal Medicine that includes a Chief Residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at New Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He is currently an Associated Director of Cardiology and Director of Arrhythmia Services at Hartford Hospital and is on the Senior Staff. Also, he holds the titles of Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy at the University School Pharmacy. Prior to coming to Hartford in 1980 he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cornell School of Medicine and the Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Dr. Kluger is currently board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Electrophysiology. He is the founder of the Arrhythmia Program at Hartford Hospital and has the longest continuously operating electrophysiology laboratory in the greater Hartford region.

Dr. Kluger has been recognized for his dedication to teaching with four outstanding cardiology fellowship teaching awards and is the recipient of the Aldo Bellucci Award for Excellence in Teaching, University of Connecticut Internal Medicine Program. He has been named in a Hartford Magazine survey as one of the Best Doctors in Greater Hartford for the last four years.

Dr. Kluger's research interest centers on the pharmacologic treatment of arrhythmias and outcomes related to the internal cardiovascular defibrillator. He is the medical advisor and associate director of the UCONN/Hartford EPC (Evidence Based Practice Center) funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He has received numerous federal, foundation and industry grants to support his research. His peer reviewed publications number in excess of 200.

In addition, Dr. Kluger has been interested in the Quality Improvement Process and has lead a number of quality improvement projects and is currently implementing a somewhat unique service centric model for a structured emergency response at Hartford Hospital.

Dr. Ronald Koff completed his undergraduate work at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, followed by continued studies at the University of Louisville, where he received his medical degree in 1973. He is currently a Clinical Instructor at UofL and maintains a practice at the Henry County Medical Center, New Castle, Kentucky.

An authority on diabetes, Dr. Koff has given over 20 Pri-Med programs per year across the country, covering the following topics:
