Course Description and Target Audience
The 24th Annual Cardiology Update is a one-day symposium which provides information regarding the latest advances in cardiology to rural healthcare providers who otherwise may not have the opportunity to experience it first-hand because of expense and time commitments. This program attracts approximately 100 healthcare providers per year from a 40-mile radius in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.

The target audience includes Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses and other healthcare providers interested in the prevention, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.

Learning Objectives
1) Recognize the lines of responsibility between cardioligist, primary care physician and patient.
2) Cite the common mistakes which are made in comanagement.
3) Report necessary patient information in an efficient manner.
4) Identify the candidate for AFIB ablation.
5) Recognize complications in AFIB ablation.
6) Describe the early clinical changes that occur in the heart failure patient leading to hospitalization.
7) Review the pertinent data and clinical implications of the REVERSE and FAST studies.
8) Evaluate the clinical implications of ventricular remodeling.
9) Identify coronary risk factors.
10) Describe the management of coronary artery disease.
11) Assess Hyperglycemia and mortality and morbidity in AMI and stroke.
12) Discuss pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic action of glucose and hyperglycemia.
13) Describe Anti-inflammatory action of insulin.
