Assistant Dean

Sharon K. Whitmer, Ed.D., MFTA has been in charge of the Continuing Health Sciences Education office since 1998.

Her duties include: Directs Continuing Health Sciences Education (CHSE). Administers the accreditation for the School of Medicine’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit and oversees nursing continuing education. Builds relationships with commercial representatives. Oversees the marketing of the CHSE programs. Directs and supervises work of the CHSE staff. Manages the budget for the CHSE office. Develops policies. Assesses the overall effectiveness of Continuing Health Sciences Education Program. Works with faculty/physicians to plan, develop, and coordinate CHSE courses linked to the assessment. Serves on curriculum committees of all the CHSE courses. Oversees the CHSE website and online course development. Develops and administers needs assessment tools. Oversees outcome studies. Directs the logistical arrangements for continuing education courses.

Dr. Whitmer graduated from Spalding University in 1981 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She continued her studies at the University of Louisville and in 1983 graduated with a Master of Education in Educational Psychology/Student Personnel Administration. In 1999, Dr. Whitmer completed a Doctor of Education majoring in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Higher Education and in 2007 she completed a Post Master certification in Marriage and Family Therapy. Prior to coming to Continuing Health Sciences Education, Dr. Whitmer was at Bellarmine University, where she had several duties including overseeing the continuing education area.

Administrative Assistant

James joined Continuing Health Science Education in 2009. He is responsible for auditing customer files according to ACCME standards, updating the CHSE web site as necessary, including Grand Rounds and calendar events, and maintaining evaluation spreadsheets for CHSE exhibits and online courses. In addition, he is responsible for networking with pharmaceutical representatives and doctors to coordinate upcoming exhibits.

James graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.A. in Biology. Prior to coming to Continuing Health Sciences, he was the Manager of Sales and Operations for his family’s business.

Paul Fultz PortraitPaul Fultz

Program Coordinator Senior

Paul Fultz has worked in Continuing Health Sciences Education since 2001. He is responsible for applying for educational grants, maintaining and updating the office's website, developing web-based continuing education courses, and the graphic design and production coordination of symposium brochures.

Prior to coming to Continuing Health Sciences Education, Paul spent three years with U of L's Office of Planning and Budget (OPB). While in OPB he worked on the budget portion of their website, as well as spearheading a major redesign of the entire site. He was also responsible for the graphic design and production coordination of more than a dozen annually-produced publications, including the official University Operating Budget.

Paul graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.A. in Communication. As a student he worked for U of L's student newspaper, The Louisville Cardinal, serving in various capacities including Sports Editor, News Editor and Editor-In-Chief. He has worked in public relations at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and written freelance news articles for Louisville's daily metropolitan newspaper, The Courier-Journal.

Paul co-owned and co-published a local newspaper, The Independent, which had a monthly circulation of 10,000 readers during its 16-month run. After discontinuing the print version, an online version of The Independent was published on the World Wide Web for approximately one year.

Joyce Korfhage PortraitJoyce Korfhage

Program Assistant Senior

Joyce joined Continuing Health Sciences Education in 2007. As the coordinator for continuing education programs, she is responsible for the registration of all participants and the logistics for each program. She is on site to ensure that the programs run smoothly. She also maintains continuing education credits for the physicians who attend programs and Regularly Scheduled Series.

Kimberly Moore PortraitKimberly D. Moore

Administrative Associate

Kimberly has worked for Continuing Health Sciences Education since 1993. Kimberly is responsible for the office's accounting and business manger duties, handling registration at all programs, contacting speakers, contracting audio visual needs, preparing name badges, and syllabi. In addition, she tracks registrants, develops evaluations, handles hotel and travel arrangements for program faculty, processes honorarium, prepares transmittals for deposits, and assists with maintaining the efficient flow of the office.

Kimberly graduated from Spencerian College in 1989 with a two-year diploma in the Executive Administrative Program. She is married and has a son.
