Message from the Dean

Dean T. Gerard Bradley

Greetings ULSD family and friends,

Since taking the lead of the school last August, we’ve accomplished a great deal. A strategic plan has been formulated, developed, and we are now implementing that plan. Town hall meetings are a part of the process with faculty, staff and students.

Today, I leave this message in the spirit of connecting with you because as alumni, we value an open, honest, transparent relationship.

As you may already know, the activities highlighted in the forensic audit happened under previous university leadership and a previous foundation board. The university administration and the UofL foundation have already taken steps to improve policies and procedures, ensure more transparency in its activities, and return the university to solid financial footing.

The good news is that despite this distraction, our alumni and friends donated almost $4.1 million dollars for the dental school this past fiscal year.  So, I wanted to take a moment to let you know how we used some of your gifts:

  • We awarded 94 scholarships to 81 students totaling $327,266.
  • We completed a $1 million fundraising goal to endow a professorship in orthodontics.
  • Our Compassionate Care program allowed 122 adult patients to get the care they needed which in turn helped 97 students complete their requirements for graduation.
  • 65 low-income children received treatment, thanks to generous donations earmarked to help those families struggling to afford dental care.
  • And, residents from our specialty programs attended numerous professional development conferences.

These are just a few examples of how your gifts have made a difference – thank you for making this possible.

We are committed to being good stewards of your investments, and I want you to know that every dollar designated for the dental school stays right here.  Now more than ever, we need you – our alumni family – to continue to stick with us.  If you have questions or concerns about your gifts, we want to hear from you.  Feel free to contact our development officer, Betty Sallengs, at 502-852-2011.

Again, thank you for your support.
