Introduction
Welcome to the Institutional Compliance Office (ICO). The ICO provides independent oversight for the University of Louisville’s compliance program. The objective of the compliance program is to provide an infrastructure that facilitates on-going assurance that the institution is complying with internal and external laws, regulations, policies and procedures as the University moves forward to become a nationally recognized, premier metropolitan research university.
At UofL, many different departments are responsible for monitoring applicable laws so as to develop and maintain appropriate policies and communicate these policies and procedures to their constituents. Each of these departments operates as the institutional “subject matter expert” in laws and policies. The University created the ICO with the mandate to coordinate, monitor and, when appropriate, improve, the array of compliance functions. This is accomplished through conducting risk assessments, monitoring operational activities, participating in training sessions and administering quality assurance reviews, among other tools used to help reduce the University's risks.
Risks, such as financial, operational, strategic and reputation-related, can come from any number of sources. By creating a culture of compliance, the University, its students, employees and the entire UofL community will be better served.
