Frequently asked questions about compliance and reporting at UofL.
WHAT IS THE COMPLIANCE HELPLINE?
UofL is serious about fostering an atmosphere of integrity and honesty. It is everyone’s responsibility to adhere to and comply with laws, regulations and policy on UofL’s behalf. UofL’s Compliance Helpline is a simple way to report activities that you suspect are unethical violations or criminal. The Helpline is operated by an independent company hired by UofL’s Institutional Compliance Office to ensure that our compliance reporting is objective.
WHEN SHOULD I CONTACT THE HELPLINE?
When you witness activity that may be questionable, please let us know by calling UofL’s Compliance Helpline. This could be anything related to:
- research
- medical practice
- privacy
- information security
- environmental health and safety
- financial transactions
- human resources
- athletics
- and more.
WHY IS THE HELPLINE IMPORTANT?
UofL is committed to conducting its affairs in compliance with all applicable laws. The Compliance Helpline is an effective way to report activities via the toll-free number below. UofL employees may also submit a report online at the “Compliance Helpline Reporting” option on ULink.

Call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To protect everyone involved, no disciplinary or legal action will be taken based solely on Compliance Helpline reports. Only substantiated findings may result in disciplinary action.
WHAT SHOULD BE MY FIRST STEP?
Report your suspicions to your supervisor or another member of management. If you believe your supervisor is involved and/or previous reports haven’t been acted upon, call the Compliance Helpline.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I CONTACT THE HELPLINE?
If you call the Helpline, a trained risk specialist will document your information and generate a written report. You may also write your own report via the “Compliance Helpline Reporting” option on ULink found under the External Links section of the Faculty/Staff Services Tab. All reports will be forwarded to the Institutional Compliance Office for follow-up and resolution.
DO I HAVE TO GIVE MY NAME?
No. If you call the toll-free number you will not be required to identify yourself and your voice will not be recorded. At the close of your call, the risk specialist will assign you an identity code that you may use if you wish to make a follow-up call. If you report an issue online at ULink, you are not required to provide your name or contact information. University compliance officials will ensure your confidentiality to the best of their ability.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ALL THE FACTS?
Contact the UofL Compliance Helpline even if you’re not sure there’s a problem. University compliance officials will review the information you provide and take appropriate action.
