Graduate Student Writing Groups
Graduate Student Writing Group
"The writing group has helped me to dedicate time to writing my dissertation. The discussions we have during the writing group encourages me as I’m able to relate to people’s struggles with the writing process. Also, the Writing Center consultant is always willing to assist us with our writing goals." - Victory Osezua, PhD Candidate, Health Promotion and Behavioral Science
The University Writing Center organizes and facilitates a writing group for graduate students at UofL. The goal is to provide support, community, accountability, and feedback for scholars working on research writing. Faculty and graduate students can work on any project during the writing groups – seminar papers, journal articles, grant proposals, conference presentations, job letters, etc. Graduate students from all disciplines and programs are welcome at the writing groups.
Our writing group provides a regular setting in which graduate students and faculty can have a focused time and space for writing and to discuss writing issues with peers. Each meeting will begin with writing time, followed by a conversation about the progress of projects and questions and concerns that have come up about writing. Meetings will be facilitated by a member of the University Writing Center staff who will coordinate workshop time, facilitate group conversations about writing, and respond to individual questions.
Spring 2025 Information
August 15-April 30
The group will meet on Wednesdays from 9 - 11 am in Ekstrom 132.
Graduate Student Fellows Program
The Graduate Fellows program is for graduate students completing a journal article, thesis, or dissertation to receive individualized writing support and consistent feedback on their scholarship. Participants will be partnered with one of the Writing Center’s Assistant Directors who are advanced PhD students and meet at regular intervals (either weekly, every other week, or monthly) to make progress toward a writing goal. The benefit of the fellows program is that graduate students will have a semester-long mentor who is familiar with their larger project and can offer more tailored advice.
