Co-Sponsor 22nd Annual African American Music Heritage Institute AIN’T I AM WOMAN Monday February 5 8-9:30pm, Comstock Concert Hall at the School of Music The program celebrates the lives and times of four significant African American women. As presented by the CORE Ensemble, an ensemble that celebrates diversity through chamber music theater. “Ain’t I a Woman” is a chamber music theatre work for actress and trio (cello, piano & percussion) celebrating the lives and times of ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. Text is by Kim Hines. The musical score is drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the Deep South, the urban exuberance of the Jazz Age and concert music by African American composers including Diane Monroe. General admission to the performance will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Children 10 and under will be admitted free. U of L students will be admitted free with their valid student ID. Tickets may be reserved by calling (502) 852-6907, or they may be purchased at the door. |

Human Trafficking Awareness Conference Thursday February 22 Doors open at 5:30pm; 6-8pm, Student Activities Center Multipurpose Room The Women 4 Women Student Board hosts this annual conference about this modern-day slavery issue in Louisville with local and national speakers. They encourage students and the public to become involved in efforts to make other people aware of the problem and to help stop it. |

Book Donation Drive April 2 - April 30 The U of L Women’s Center is partnering with the Family Scholar House and Gray’s Bookstore for a Book Collection Drive to benefit the Women’s Center Student Parent Association, Women 4 Women Student Board and the Family Scholar House. U of L faculty can drop off old editions of textbooks that are no longer used or spare copies of texts that have been piling up over several semesters. Drop off location for faculty: U of L Women’s Center, Administrative Annex Building), lower level.
