August is World Breastfeeding Month |
Cultural & Equity Center Block Party1:30-3:30pm, Cultural & Equity Center Join us this Saturday for the Cultural & Equity Center Block Party 1:30pm-3:30pm! There will be free treats, swag, and music! This will be your first chance to chat with staff from the Cultural Center, LGBT Center, Muhammad Ali Institute, Women’s Center, and Office for Diversity Education and Inclusive Excellence. Be sure to come and learn about how to get involved and connected early for success! Get in with the good vibes! Gwendolyn Kelly & Julia Youngblood will facilitate art-making with memory wire & metal stamped bracelets, affirmation bags & doodle boards. Supplies and tools will be provided. Opportunity to win special prizes including tea from Sis Got Tea! Women's Equality DayAugust 29th 12-2pm, Cultural & Equity Center Women’s Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting the right to vote to women in the United States, on August 26th, 1920. Black women and women of color were NOT guaranteed the right to vote until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The fight still continues for all. Enjoy a sweet treat. Learn how and why your vote matters with voter registration and Informational Booths. Menstrual Freedom Coalition: Get with the Flow!October 12th 3-4:30pm, Shumaker Research Building Room 139 Get with the Flow! Join us for an interactive workshop on menstrual inequities and how you can be involved with the Menstrual Freedom Coalition. To address period poverty, the Menstrual Freedom Coalition (MFC), a newly formed coalition of campus and community partners, will come together as a yearlong cohort dedicated to challenging period stigma and dismantling barriers. MFC promotes menstrual equity through resource-sharing, educational workshops and community building to empower individuals who menstruate to live their lives to the fullest. To continue addressing menstrual inequities on campus, the Menstrual Freedom Coalition was created to continue the Tampon Task Force mission, but to utilize a collaborative approach in addition with the community.
